BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATION

What you can expect from a behavioural consultation.

Behaviour

You may see a range of different behaviours from your animal that you want help with. I specialize in addressing behavioural issues in dogs, cats, and horses.

Each species has adapted to the domestic environment in different ways and may encounter unique challenges. For dogs, these can include aggression, separation anxiety, and repetitive behaviours. Cats may struggle with house soiling, destructive behaviour, and fear of people or new objects. Horses may exhibit handling, loading, and aggression problems, as well as repetitive behaviours.

Through my experience, I have encountered numerous cases and can help guide you through these issues.

Consultation Process

Step 1: Contact your vet

  • Before booking a consultation, you need to get a referral from your vet. This is to rule out any medical causes for your animal's behaviour and to ensure that I have all the relevant information about your animal's health history.

  • Download the referral form from below and send it to your vet. Ask them to fill it out and send it back to me along with a full clinical history of your animal.

  • At the same time, you need to complete a behaviour questionnaire for your animal. This will help me to understand your animal's behaviour, personality, lifestyle, and environment.

  • You can find the appropriate questionnaire for your animal below. Fill it out and return it to Chloe via email to chloemurchieanimalbehaviour@googlemail.com

Step 2: Arrange a consultation date

  • Once I receive your forms, I will contact you to arrange a consultation date that suits you and your animal.

  • You will have the option to choose between an online consultation via Zoom or a home visit. The online consultation is suitable for most cases, but some may require a home visit or a visit to another location where the behaviour problem occurs.

  • You will receive an invoice from me with a 50% deposit payable to confirm your booking. You can pay the deposit via bank transfer or PayPal.

Step 3: Attend the consultation and receive initial advice

  • On the day of the consultation, I will either meet you online via Zoom or in person at your home or another location. The consultation will last for about 2 hours.

  • We will discuss the problem behaviour with you in detail and observe your animal. I will ask you questions about your animal's history, routine, diet, training, and interactions with other animals and people.

  • I will provide you with an in-depth analysis of why the behaviour is occurring and what factors are influencing it. I will also give you some initial advice and suggestions for training or changes to the environment that you can start implementing right away.

Step 4: Receive a personalised report and behaviour modification plan

  • After the consultation, I will write a personalised report for you and your animal. The report will summarise the findings of the consultation and provide you with a behaviour modification plan.

  • The behaviour modification plan will outline the steps you need to take to change your animal's behaviour. It will include clear instructions, examples, and tips for training, management, and enrichment. It will also specify the goals, expectations, and time frame for the behaviour change.

  • I will send you the report and the behaviour modification plan via email within 10 working days of the consultation. I will also send a copy to your vet and any other professionals involved with your animal's care.

  • I will be available for any questions or clarifications you may have about the report and the plan.

Step 5: Have a follow-up session (optional)

  • As part of the consultation package, you will have a further 1-hour follow-up session with me via Zoom at an agreed time. This session will allow you to discuss your progress, review the behaviour modification plan, and make any adjustments if needed.

  • I will also provide you with optional support via email or phone for up to 6 months after the consultation. You can contact me for any queries, feedback, or updates on your animal's behaviour.

  • If you wish to have more follow-up visits from me for animal training or coaching, you can arrange them separately at an additional cost.
